A cat island you said? Exactly. Such a place actually exists and is waiting for you there, to make up for the human population, heavily outnumbered by the feline presence on the small Aoshima Island, in southern Japan’s Ehime prefecture.
Aoshima became popular online in recent times and as a result, the place has seen an uptick in tourist visits, so why shouldn’t you become the next to make the move?
More precisely, there are six cats for a human, which in turn means you will be the one to get full attention from the feral company available on the tiny, almost uninhabited piece of land, exactly contrary to what happens back at home. This time it’s not even about whether you are a cat or a dog person. When you see them all gathered around to meet you, awaiting for a special treat, of course, you will soon realize you’ve just woken up from a dream and arrived in Paradise.
After flying to Japan, two ferries a day can allow you to complete your journey. Don’t be afraid, the cats are attended and taken care of by a nurse which is also a city official, a lady named Atsuko Ogata, around them all day, feeding and giving them company.
So make yourself a concession and admit you’d want to live there, for at least a while, away from all the noise and the agitation of the metropolis. The constant residents will treat you with tenderness and suddenly you’ll feel like you’re the special one. After that, it’s not our fault you won’t feel the urge to come back.
Otherwise, if you just had a bad day, like all of us do sometimes, take a look at this series of pictures and understand that there’s a bright tomorrow waiting for you. Maybe not so full of cats, but definitely full of hope and better choices.
